Road signage asset registration using a georeferenced plan image. Been doing so many of these now that it's become second nature. I wonder if there is an easier way to do this though? Like when they install an asset, capture the XY coordinates?
I shouldn't have to do it manually every time there is an asset installed if the asset engineers capture the coordinates, and then give me a spreadsheet containing the asset number and the coordinates. Could even automate the database update with Python.
The plan image I've georeferenced is what is known as the
Work As Executed (WAE) plan which is done after construction has finished. A surveyor or asset engineer from the local council returns to the development and checks if something has been built as per the proposed plan before the final sign off. This also triggers a reminder to inform the team at the office that a new asset can be be registered into GIS, and the Asset Management System.
