Home Media Server Project

Thinking about my next project. This will be a home theatre / media server. Want to also run a plex/emby/kodi server, some VMs or multi box Elite Dangerous. The CPU might be a bit weak below, so kind of want to see what AMD does with the Ryzen gen2 chips and maybe snag a discounted gen1 1700/1800X eight core CPU.

The PC parts porn is a working progress.

NO RGB colour theme for this build because it'll run headless tucked away under the desk

AMD Ryzen 5 2400G (has iGPU so no need for dedicated GPU at current crypto-frenzy pricing)

ASUS ROG Strix B350-F Gaming Motherboard

(Possibly the ASUS ROG Strix X370-F motherboard too for more SATA3 ports)

HyperX Predator HX432C16PB3K2/16 16GB (2x8GB) 3200Mhz DDR4

Operating System

Windows 10 Professsional

EVGA SuperNOVA G1 650W Modular Power Supply

Disk Array

1x Samsung 860 PRO 256GB SSD (Just for OS, thought about M.2 SSD but that takes up two SATA3 ports)

5x Seagate 8TB IronWolf NAS 3.5" (Stablebit Duplication similar to RAID1, so 20TB usable space with possibility to cram more in with further SAS/SATA expansion card)

1x Fractal Design Define R6 Black ATX Case, Tempered Glass Window (this is a beautiful case and even if it is pricey i want it)

2x Fractal Design GP 140mm Fan

Internal Blu-Ray re-writable optical drive
