This is the Roller Derby season opener at Luna Park on 16 August 2014. I went to cheer on Feisty Cuffs / Team Lumberjacks, whom i met at Comic Gong earlier this year. Without much of a clue about how the game was played i went along anyway. Figured i would pick up the rules as the game went on. Roller Derby as a spectator sport is AWESOME. This was so much fun to watch, and much more difficult to photograph from the spectator stands. It's a good thing i brought a low profile telephoto prime lens! I don't think i would have gotten away with using a glowing hot, white telephoto zoom lens!
I picked one end of track as the girls turned back towards the spectators for the majority of my shots. It was a good plan since I only had a 30 degree field of view to shoot and I only stood in one spot the whole time. These are shot with the Canon 200mm f/2.8 L. I love this lens it works so well in situations like these! Every frame had good colours and clarity. The 6D's sensor is grainy on the higher ISOs but I'll live with grainer shots than no shot at all.
